Queensland mum admits killing toddler Mason Lee

The mother of slain Queensland toddler Mason Jet Lee has tearfully admitted killing him by not getting him medical treatment after he was dealt a fatal blow.

Anne Maree Lee, 29, has pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of the 22-month-old, who died after a blow from her partner in Caboolture, north of Brisbane, in June 2016.

She also pleaded guilty to a child cruelty charge after failing to get him medical treatment for leg and anus injuries in January and February that year.

Lee's then-boyfriend, William Andrew O'Sullivan, was sentenced to nine years in jail in June last year after also pleading guilty to manslaughter and child cruelty.

His fatal punch ruptured Mason's small intestine. The child endured a slow and painful death five days later.

Prosecutors believe his fatal injuries were "survivable" had he been taken to get medical treatment.

Lee was responsible for Mason's death because she failed to do so.

She also failed to remove him from O'Sullivan's care despite knowing the man was prone to violence.

"For reasons that are unknown, she left Mason at (O'Sullivan's) home," crown prosecutor Michael Byrne QC said.

The couple had been together for about a year but did not live together.

O'Sullivan's sentencing heard he had taken Mason to his home because he did not believe Lee was capable of caring for him.

Sentencing submissions in Lee's case have heard on Wednesday she was not a methylamphetamine user, but O'Sullivan was.

Months before his death, Lee and O'Sullivan failed to get Mason medical treatment for a broken leg and perianal injuries so severe a dermatologist who treated him said it was the worst case he had seen in his 40 years' experience.

His pain was so severe he required narcotic infusions.

He suffered "physically and undoubtedly psychological harm" from the experience, Mr Byrne said.

O'Sullivan's parole eligibility was set for July 2022.

Lee's sentencing continues.
