Collector invites suggestions from political parties

The East Godavari district administration has proposed to relocate as many as 77 polling stations to new buildings, as the existing buildings were either in a dilapidated condition or not meeting the requirements.

Announcing this during a review meeting with the representatives of political parties here on Tuesday, District Collector Kartikeya Misra said that the new buildings would be located close to the existing polling stations. He advised the representatives to submit their suggestions in writing, so that they would be considered while relocating the polling stations.

He said that minor renovations would be made to another 678 polling station buildings to facilitate the polling procedure.

40 lakh voters

Observing that there was an increase in the voters from 37 lakh to 40 lakh and there was possibility of an increase by another one lakh voters in the district. In all, 4,580 polling stations would be arranged in all the 19 Assembly constituencies in the district. Mr. Misra said that arrangements were being made to conduct awareness campaigns to make people aware of the use of electronic voting machines at the polling booth level.

He advised the political parties to go through the draft electoral rolls and appoint poll agents at the booth level. Officials and representatives of the political parties were present.
