Chevrolet dealerships across the United States have an extraordinary 232-day supply of brand new C7 Corvettes on their lots – which, frankly, is quite higher than the industry norm.

Corvette Blogger reports that, as of February 2019, inventories of the C7 Corvette have swollen to 9,000 vehicles across the country. That figure comes from eInventoryNow, an online resource that allows dealership to manage their new vehicle inventories. In December 2018, there were 8,000 Corvettes waiting to be sold and Chevrolet has continued to produce more C7s than it can sell into 2019.

Sales of the C7 Corvette reached their peak in 2016, when an impressive 40,689 units were sold. Since then, however, demand has steadily declined and in January 2019, a mere 800 new Corvettes were sold.

Obviously, sales of the current Chevrolet Corvette have taken a hit with the news that the eighth-generation Corvette is just around the corner. While the C8 will probably cost more than the C7, many prospective Corvette owners are likely waiting to see what the mid-engine model is like before buying one – or, instead, opting for a discounted C7.

Corvette Blogger also speculates that Chevrolet may be stocking up on C7 Corvette inventories as the company could have plans for a plant shutdown to retool facilities for the totally different, mid-engined C8.

As we recently discovered during a five-day drive with a 2019 C7 Corvette Z51, it might be old but it’s still one of the best bang-for-your-buck sports cars on the market. If Chevrolet decides to offer the C7 with generous discounts following the arrival of the C8 Corvette, we presume it will manage to shift most, if not all, of its huge inventory soon enough.
