Ludhiana: As the announcement for Lok Sabha elections 2019 is nearing, the district administration has started preparations for the same. Deputy commissioner-cum-district election officer (Ludhiana) Pradeep Kumar Aggarwal on Tuesday chaired a meeting of assistant returning officers (AROs) and nodal officers of all 14 Vidhan Sabha constituencies of Ludhiana district.

This meeting was attended by Glada chief administrator Parminder Singh Gill, additional deputy commissioner (Development) Dr Shena Agarwal, ADC (General) Iqbal Singh Sandhu, ADC (Khanna) Jaspal Singh, ADC (Jagraon) Neeru Katyal Gupta, and other senior officials of the district administration.

During the meeting, Aggarwal informed that on the directions of the Election Commission of India (ECI), preparations for the upcoming Lok Sabha election 2019 have started. He said the announcement of Model Code of Conduct by ECI is expected anytime now, and asked officials to remain prepared for elections and ensure all necessary arrangements were completed. He also directed the AROs to ensure complete deployment of sector officers and block level officers in Ludhiana district.

The DC also said: “All information regarding the same should also be uploaded on the election portal. AROs need to conduct meetings with election staff and personally visit all polling stations, and they should also prepare sector maps in advance, so that they can be used during election time. All these arrangements must be made by February 20, so that a joint meeting can be convened regarding this.”

He also added: “This time, at least 10 model polling stations each would be established in all Vidhan Sabha constituencies and the officials concerned should identify the places where they are to be established, and therefore, the remaining voter identification cards should be distributed on a priority basis.” The DC also informed that he would personally supervise preparations for Lok Sabha elections. He is said to ensured maximum participation of voters in the elections.
