The accused, identified as Sagning Rai, allegedly provided fake guarantee papers to Biyani after receiving Rs 25 lakh commission. Police said the company of the complainant, BC Biyani Projects Pvt Ltd, wanted to apply for a contract at Koradi Thermal Power station (KTPS). A contract worth Rs 15.50 crore was issued by Mahagenco. Biyani wanted to apply for the contract, but for that he needed bank guarantee of Rs 2.50 crore.
Biyani talked to his friend Shrihari Talashiya about the issue, who claimed that he knows a manager of Kolkata’s ICICI bank. Talashiya told Biyani that if he gives Rs25 lakh, then he will definitely provide him bank guarantee.
Soon, the trio met and Rai promised to provide Biyani a guarantee paper of Rs 2.50 crore. Biyani then transferred Rs 25 lakh in the account of Talashiya who later sent the money to Rai. After a few days, Rai gave the guarantee paper to Rai in the name of ICICI bank.
But after verifying the papers, they turned out to be fake. Biyani then approached Koradi police station and lodged a complaint. After investigating the case, the cops booked Rai for fraud. Koradi police will soon send a team to Kolkata to nab the accused.
