Nagpur: The state cabinet on Wednesday sanctioned Rs10 crore for 1,124 former workers of Nagpur Vinkar Sahkari Sut Girni. The spinning mill had closed down years ago leaving the workers in the lurch.
According to a press release issued by chief minister’s office (CMO), each Sut Girni worker will get Rs88,968 due to the decision. The open land available with the Sut Girni will be handed over to Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) at ready reckoner rates. The money thus obtained will be used to clear the dues of the workers.

The cabinet also decided to start an office of chief engineer and additional commissioner of water conservation (minor irrigation) in Nagpur. These posts will come under the soil and water conservation department.

The government has also decided to increase the monthly allowance of medal awardees among defence personnel every four years. Both serving and former personnel will benefit from the decision. If a person has been awarded more than one medal then the higher medal will be considered for calculation of allowance first. The winners of Maharashtra Gaurav award will get separate allowance for different medals.

The government has increased the sustenance allowance for students of deprived sections studying in aided educational institutions. The monthly allowance has been increased from Rs900 to Rs1,500.

The allowance for students of mentally challenged schools, HIV-affected residential schools etc has been fixed at Rs1,500 per month.

This hike comes for the first time after a gap of eight years.
