JAIPUR: Army Havildar Sheo Ram was cremated with full military honours in his village in Jhunjhunu on Tuesday morning. The jawan was martyred in a counter-terrorism operation in Pulwama on Monday.
His wife, who is nine-months pregnant, was told about his death on Tuesday morning following which she collapsed and has been referred to a hospital in Jaipur due to complications.
A relative told TOI, "Sheo Ram's wife and mother were informed of his death only Tuesday morning. We all were worried since his wife is expecting their second child and is due to deliver anytime. What we feared happened as she collapsed soon after the cremation. She had to be rushed to a hospital in Jaipur where her condition is stable as of now. Her due date is still around 10 days away, but the doctors said that due to stress and the traumatic news, she might deliver early."
Sheo served in the Army for around 16 years
The martyr has served in the Army for around 16 years and his younger brother is also currently serving in the forces. He lost his father at a young age. The 40-year-old soldier was expected to visit home on Wednesday. He is survived by his 4-year-old son and wife.
Soldier welfare minister Pratap Singh Khachariyawas attended the funeral at Sheo Ram’s village Tiba Basai in Jhunjhunu district and assured that the government will give Rs 50 lakh compensation to the next of kin of the martyr.
Sheo Ram was posted in Jammu & Kashmir and is one of the five Army personnel who were martyred during the operation in Pulwama in which three terrorists were also neutralised.
