A 35-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly supplying cannabis in the Capital, the police said on Tuesday. They said that Mohd Parvez Alam was considered a local hero in his village in Bihar and wanted to contest the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

DCP (Dwarka) Anto Alphonse said Alam was arrested from Vikaspuri on February 14.

“The staff was carrying out checks on the Vikaspuri to Najafgarh drain road when one person carrying a white plastic sack was spotted. On seeing the cops, he started walking on the other side,” Mr. Alphonse said.

He was asked to stop but he started walking faster after which the staff chased him and nabbed him.

“On search, the white sack was found containing about six kg of ganja. A case was registered and he was arrested,” the officer said, adding: “He had planned to contest the general election from Bihar.”
