Former Karnataka Congress MLA held for murder bid
TNN | Feb 21, 2019, 04:10 ISTBENGALURU: On the run for a month after allegedly attacking and attempting to murder a lawmaker colleague, former Congress MLA from Kampli in Karnataka, JN Ganesh, was arrested from a hotel in Gujarat on Wednesday.
Ganesh had allegedly attacked Hospet MLA Anand Singh at a resort, where the Congress had corralled its lawmakers on the night of January 20. Anand Singh had been taken to a hospital on January 21.
Ramanagara superintendent of police Ramesh Banoth said they arrested Ganesh from the hotel around 2pm. “He will be flown to Bengaluru on Thursday morning and then to Ramanagara,” he said. On Tuesday, Ganesh had withdrawn his advance bail petition filed in a Ramanagara court.
Anand Singh had alleged that Ganesh bashed him up, injuring his eyes and jaws. Singh said Ganesh picked a fight stating he (Anand) did not help him financially in the 2018 assembly elections. Later, Ganesh picked up a flowerpot and hit Anand with it before punching him.
Three days after the incident, Congress suspended Ganesh.
