CHIKKAMAGALURU/BENGALURU: CT Ravi’s wife Pallavi on Tuesday expressed shock over the reports that the MLA was drunk when his SUV ran over two youths near Kunigal.
“My husband does not even drink coffee or tea. Forget him drinking alcohol,” she said, adding that Ravi was a disciplined person and every morning he drinks only one cup of water. “He stopped drinking tea, coffee or any softdrink 15 years ago,” she said. She also said Ravi had stopped travelling at night for many years.

“But on Tuesday, he had a flight at 6am. So, he decided to travel by car. Since the bus reaches Bengaluru late at night, he asked the driver to bring car. This incident is very unfortunate,” she said.

Later in the day, Ravi released a video where he protested his innocence in the entire accident and expressed his grief over the loss of lives. “The accident took place late yesterday night when I was travelling from Chikkamagaluru to Chennai by road. I was asleep in the back seat while my driver Akash and my gunman Raja Naik were with me. I only realised the accident happened after airbags opened and the car came to a halt. As soon as I woke up, I called local police and an ambulance to ferry the injured,” said Ravi.

The MLA said he left the accident spot after taking permission from Kunigal police and the investigating sub-inspector.

The BJP state general secretary and Tamil Nadu incharge for elections said he “understood” what the family of the deceased must be feeling and that he would visit them later. “At this point I have got myself a preliminary checkup at Vikram hospital in Bengaluru as I had chest pain and minor injuries after the accident. I cancelled my Chennai trip and will visit the family of the deceased. I can only pray to the almighty that he gives strength to the family to bear this loss,” he said in his 90-second video.

A Vikram Hospital spokesperson said the MLA was treated as on outpatient after he arrived at the hospital on Tuesday and that he’s fine.
