Rs 37 cr worth revamp in store for Farmagudi fort

PONDA: PWD Minister Ramkrishna ‘Sudin’ Dhavalikar on Tuesday unveiled the Farmagudi fort renovation/restoration plan on the occasion of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti and informed that the entire fort would be redesigned by spending around Rs 37 crore with an eye on making it appealing for tourists.

Elucidating on the project, Dhavalikar said that artwork and designs of the project are ready and after approval, the tender process will begin, adding, once the work is taken up, it will be completed within two years’ time.

Goa Tourism Development Cooperation (GTDC) has approved the proposal by PWD and architect Abhijit Sadhale has been appointed as consultant, who has designed the entire project, the minister said.

The fort will be redesigned based on the ideas from actual fort built by Shivaji Maharaj in Maharashtra.

“We will try to make this fort into one-of-its-kind built by Shivaji in his time,” stated architect Sadhale and added that he has done a study of various forts of Shivaji in Maharashtra recently.
