LUCKNOW: The state government has suspended IPS officer of 1992 batch Jasvir Singh for violation of service rules over his remarks in an interview to a news portal and for remaining absent from duty without sanction from appropriate authority.

“The UP cadre officer was suspended after he failed to respond to the showcause notice that was served on him for violation of service conduct rules and for being absent from duty without taking approval of the competent authority,” said principal secretary (home) Arvind Kumar.

In 2002 Singh had initiated proceedings to invoke NSA against then Gorakhpur MP Yogi Adityanath in a case of violation of prohibitory orders. He was removed from the post shortly thereafter. In 2003, during his tenure as SP of UP police’s food cell, he had accused the then Samajwadi Party minister Raghuraj Pratap Singh of corruption in a multi-crore food scam. Attempts to contact the officer proved futile.
