CHENNAI: Four former school students were arrested for attacking a school teacher on Sunday after he objected to them teasing girl students who were walking to the school in Kadambathur near Tiruvallur. The incident took place on Saturday and the arrest was made on Sunday, police said.

The teacher, Paramanantham, a resident of Annanur near Avadi, was walking towards Kadambathur railway station when four youngsters intercepted and attacked him with hockey sticks and cricket bats. The four youths had covered their faces with handkerchiefs. The incident took place in full view of the public, and railway passengers on seeing this came to rescue the teacher, who fell on the ground.

Paramanantham was taken to the government hospital in Tiruvallur for treatment, and the Kadambathur police registered an assault case based on his complaint.

The youths who had fled the scene was later arrested. They were identified as Koteeshwaran, 21, Subash, 21, Mohanraj, 19, and Akash, 19.

Preliminary inquiries revealed that the four suspects were former students, who often visited the school. As Paramanantham, a chemistry teacher, prevented these students from entering the school, they devised a plan to take revenge on him.

The convicts have been remanded in Puzhal prison after being produced before a magistrate court in Tiruvallur on Sunday.
