Tirupur: A 39-year-old man, along with his family members, on Monday staged a protest demanding action against a policeman, who allegedly thrashed him when he tried to present a T-shirt to Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his recent visit to the district.

S Kanagaraj of Periyayeepalayam along with his wife and children staged a sit-in protest at the collectorate. Kanagaraj, a tailor, said when the Prime Minister was on the way to attend the function held at Perumanallur, he tried to present a T-shirt he had stitched to him. But he was stopped and was taken inside a van before being beaten by a policeman for some time. He sustained several internal injuries and he had to seek medical treatment, Kanagaraj said. He submitted a petition to district superintendent of police A Kayalvizhi, demanding action. TNN
