Dhanbad/Jamshedpur: Two youngsters, one from Jamshedpur and another Dhanbad, were arrested over the last two days for allegedly raising anti-India and anti-Army slogans and writing ‘inappropriate’ posts on social media. Police are looking for three more youths, said police.
Shanawaz Ali, a resident of Azad Nagar in Bhuli, Dhanbad, was arrested by the Mumbai police on charges of posting objectionable content related to the Pulwama terror attack on Facebook.

The arrest was made after Dhanbad police contacted their Mumbai counterparts following a written complaint against Ali by locals, who participated in heated protest outside the Bhuli thana late on Monday. While what exactly Ali wrote was not clear as he had deleted the post, locals here said he mocked at the Army’s sacrifices.

Soon after getting information about hundreds of residents gathering at Bhuli outpost, Dhanbad MLA Raj Sinha and other public representatives reached to the spot to pacify the protesters. The protest ended only after the local police traced Ali’s location to Powai in Mumbai and asked their counterparts to arrest him.

SSP Kishore Kaushal on Tuesday confirmed the developments. “A team has been sent to Mumbai to bring him here. An FIR has been registered under sections related to sedition, disturbance of communal harmony etc,” he said.

In another incident, a 17-year-old identified as Anas Razi, a resident of Old Purulia road in Azadnagar, Jamshedpur, was arrested on Sunday night allegedly raising anti-India slogans. He was sent to prison after he was produced in court on Monday.

Police said Razi and with three others, who were riding two bikes, were first noticed by the locals when they were harassing some girls on Sunday evening. When they were opposed and chased by the locals, the three fled shouting pro-Pakistan slogans. While three of them managed to escape but Anas was caught and handed over to the police. All the four have been charged with sections related to sedition and rioting.

Police said Razi has identified the other three as Mohamed Aman, Mohamed Razi and Tanveer Anwar. “We are looking for these three,” said Bishnu Raut, officer in-charge of Azadnagar police station. SSP Anup Birthare has instructed all police stations to intensify patrolling in sensitive areas.
