Don’t get carried away by Facebook comments: Police

Bhopal: After Pulwama terrorist attack, Facebook is flooded with comments hurting religious sentiments in state capital and the police have urged people do not get carried away by such posts. A person having Facebook account in the name of Mithun Meena was on Monday booked by Ashoka Garden police for hurting religious sentiments of a particular community by posting derogatory comments on Facebook and targeting a members of the community.

Police said Meena was booked for posting offending comments against a particular community following a complaint by one Azam Khan of Nawab Colony. In his complaint Azam stated that Meena comment of Facebook is hurting religious sentiments and inciting communal hatred.

The police have registered a case under Section 295 A of the IPC and Unlawful Activities Prevention Act, 1967 Act against the accused. During investigation, police found most of the user IDs are fake and created to post only derogatory comments. The post created panic among members of a particular community who gathered other members of the community and along with the victim, a group reached police station and staged protest at the police station.

Later police registered a case against the accused. SHO Ashoka Garden Sunil Shrivastava said, “Such cases are on rise after Pulwama terrorist attack. Police have to first investigate whether the Facebook ID is fake or not in which such objectionable comments are being posted.

In this case, whether Mithun Meena is operating Facebook or someone else has made the fake ID is not established. Similarly, people of other community are doing. So I tried to convince the complainants that do not take such comments seriously. But they were adamant so we registered the complaints. Even in my Facebook account, series of such objectionable comments are posted.”

Kashmiri students frightened

The members associated with Hindu Yuva Vahini and Bajrang Dal on Monday went to the Kushabhau Thakre College in search of a Kashmiri student who they allegedly had made an objectionable post on Pulwama attack. The police and the right wings are taking action against people who are supporting the Pulwama incident. Whereas, the police are also trying to secure the Kashmiri students who are studying in state educational institutes, he added.

There are around 1300 Kashmiri students registered or enrolled in different colleges and universities of the state. Maximum around 1000 students are studying in Bhopal only. Around 100 in Ujjain, 50 plus in Gwalior and 25-30 in Indore. The SP Bhopal South Sampat Upadhyaya informed that the said five Kashmiri students are enrolled in the college, but presently they are not found in the hostel.

A memorandum is submitted by the right wing activists to the college principal for the internal enquiry. “If the college subsequently reports the matter to police, action would be taken. As precautionary measure police has been deployed at the college campus,” SP said. In an another incident, from the Pali town of Umaria district, a 20-year-old unemployed youth Mohsin alias Monty Khan has been arrested for making objectionable post on social media after Pulwama attack.

He has been arrested and booked under Sections 153, 153a and 153b of IPC. In Gwalior, a group of right wing activists made an abortive bid to target the Kashmiri traders who have put up shops at the Gwalior Trade Fair. But timely action by cops foiled
