Varanasi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi invoked Ganga and Shiva while paying tributes to Pulwama martyrs during his whistle-stop tour of Varanasi on Tuesday. “I have come to Kashi to draw strength and seek blessings from Ma Ganga and Baba Vishwanath to return the obligation of martyrs’ families,” he said.

Address at a massive rally at Audhey grounds in Varanasi, he began his speech by paying homage to the family of Pulwama martyr Ramesh Yadav. “Rashtra raksha ke liye, apne swajan ko nauchavar karne wale har parivar ka rin hum sabhi par hamesh hamesha ke liye rahega. Unke is rin ko chukane ki shakti ham sabhi ko mile, ye ashirwaad mai Baba Vishwanath se, Maa Gange se aur aap sabhi bhaiyon bahno se mangne aaya hoon (The nation will always be indebted to families of martyrs. And being your representative, I am aware of your feelings and expectations. I have come here to seek blessings and derive strength from Ma Ganga and Lord Vishwanath to pay back the debt of martyrs).

In a veiled attack on Congress president Rahul Gandhi for mocking the high-speed train, Vande Bharat, a Make-In-India initiative, Modi asked the people to give a befitting reply to those propagating negativity by belittling scientists and engineers of the country.

“When our engineers are converting a diesel locomotive into an electric engine and rolling out semi-high speed train, some people are insulting our best scientific brains. These politicians should not be forgiven. I am confident our scientists will run bullet trains in future. He also praised labourers and technicians of Railways for swiftly completing doubling of tracks and electrification,” he said.
