Honda Plans to Shift Some U.K. Civic Production to North America
England plant that produces 150,000 cars a year to close amid Brexit uncertainty
TOKYO—Honda Motor Co.’s chief executive said he wanted to move some production of Civics to North America from a soon-to-be-closed U.K. car plant, offering an example of production shifts that may ensue after Britain’s planned exit from the European Union.
Chief Executive Takahiro Hachigo, speaking in Tokyo, confirmed that Honda would end vehicle production at its plant in Swindon, England, in 2021. The plant produces 150,000 Civic models each year, including the Civic hatchback, and it employs 3,500 people.
