Pakistan has started conducting operations against terrorists: Iran Army chief

Tehran, Feb 19: Iranian Army chief Major General Mohammad Hossein Baqeri on Monday, February 18, said that Pakistan has begun operations against terrorists since Saturday, February 16.

On Wednesday, February 13, a car laden with explosives hit a bus packed with Iran's Revolutionary Guards near the Iran-Pakistan border, killing 27 soldiers while injuring another 13.

Pakistan-based Sunni militant group Jaish-ul-Adl claimed responsibility for the attack.

On the very next day, a similar suicide bombing took place in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir where another explosive-laden vehicle rammed into a bus full of CRPF jawans, killing 40 personnel.

Both Iran and India condemned Pakistan over the act and sought steps on its behalf against terrorists.

As per a report in Tehran Times, Major General Baqeri said: "We have announced that if you are not able to counter [terrorists], we will take action and avenge the blood of our dear ones."

Iran has always accused Pakistan of failing to guard its borders with Iran. Islamabad though has rejected repeated calls by Iran for joint operations against terrorists based in Pakistan.
