Officers of the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of the Mumbai Airport Customs on Monday recovered gold worth ₹3.31 crore from the clothing of a 10-year-old boy, who was travelling with two women holding Sri Lankan passports. The three had arrived from Singapore.
AIU officials identified the two women as Sidaq Rafi and Fathima Hassen. A personal search of the boy revealed 108 gold bars, each weighing 100 gm, and another 24 karat gold bar weighing 16 gm. “The gold was hidden inside specially concealed pockets of the jacket and shoes worn by the boy,” an official said. It was seized under Customs Act, 1962.
Both women were arrested and the child was produced before a juvenile court, which sent him to a remand home.
