NOIDA: Roopak Jain, the husband of former Paytm vice-president Sonia Jain, was released from Luksar jail on Monday evening after getting bail.
Lawyers of Jain, whose bail had been granted by the Allahabad high court on January 31, completed the formalities by afternoon and sent the release order to the jail authorities.
In its bail order, a single bench of Justice Vivek Singh had allowed bail to Jain on two sureties of Rs 5 lakh each but placed a few conditions. The conditions included that Roopak Jain would not seek an adjournment on the dates fixed for evidence when the witnesses are present in court. The court had also directed him to be present on each date, either personally or through his counsel.
Roopak’s wife Sonia has been accused of plotting to extort money from Paytm chief Vijay Shekhar Sharma. She, too, is in jail.
In its bail order, the court had noted the arguments of the applicant that neither was Roopak an employee of Paytm nor there was “demand of ransom made by him”. Along with his wife Sonia, another Paytm employee Devender Kumar has been arrested.
