PUNE: A gang of burglars broke into four shops at Shaniwar Peth in the early hours of Sunday and decamped with laptops, cellphones, camera and cash, collectively worth Rs37,200.

Finance agent Ranjit Zare (35) of Susgaon, who has an office at Marathe Palace in Shaniwar Peth, has lodged a complaint with Vishrambaug police.

B M Raikar, assistant inspector, Vishrambaug police, told TOI that the theft took place in the early hours of Sunday. Along with Zare’s office, the suspects broke into a printing and files-making shop, electric shop and a meditation centre in Shaniwar Peth. “These four shops are located in neighbouring buildings,” Raikar said.

He said that the suspects stole a laptop from the complainant’s shop and two cellphones, a digital camera and Rs 1,200 from other shops. “There were no CCTV cameras or security guards in these buildings,” Raikar said.

Police have checked the footage from the CCTV cameras installed at other shops. “We have come across videos of a masked man. However, the footage is not clear,” Raikar said adding, “Our probe is on.”
