Rajasthan High Court Justice, Sangeet Raj Lodha, on Monday refused to hear parole petition submitted by Asaram to meet his sick wife. The controversial godman is serving life imprisonment in Jodhpur Central Jail for sexually assaulting a minor girl.
Asaram’s wife Lakshmadevi has been admitted to a private hospital in Ahmedabad after she suffered a heart attack on Thursday. Now, the matter will be heard by another another judge. However, chances of Asaram being released on interim bail look dim.
Asaram’s counsels had moved the application for parole citing serious illness of his wife. The hearing was listed on Monday in the court whe Sangeet Raj Lodha refused to hear the case.
After serving five years in Jodhpur jail, Asaram had sought one month’s parole. He had moved high court after application was dismissed by District Parole Committee.
The High Court had asked him to send the application to the Parole Committee for a new hearing, but the committee headed by the District Collector rejected the application.
Asaram was arrested in 2013 on the charge of sexually assaulting a minor girl studying in his ashram in Jodhpur. The SC/ST court had sentenced Asaram to life imprisonment.
