Some local youth raised slogans against Kashmiri students studying in an engineering college in Panipat and demanded their ouster from the institute.
The incident happened on Sunday during a candlelight march to protest against the killing of 40 Central Reserve Police Force personnel in Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir, last week.
The residents of Naultha Dungran were holding the protest march when a few of them raised slogans against Kashmiri students studying in Geeta Engineering College in the village.
The demonstrators also demanded that the names of the Kashmiri students in the college be struck-off the rolls and they should be told to go back to their homes.
Naulatha Sarpanch Ajmer said that three-four Kashmiri students staying on rent in the village were told to go and stay in the campus keeping in mind their security.
Panipat Superintendent of Police Sumit Kumar said that security has been stepped up in and around the college after the incident. The senior police officer added that the roughly dozen Kashmiri students studying in the college were safe. Mr. Kumar said no case has been registered in this connection since there was no formal complaint.
