BENGALURU: Police on Tuesday booked BJP MLA CT Ravi's driver for allegedly ramming his SUV into a parked vehicle, killing two youths on the spot. The accident took place on late Monday night around 70km from Bengaluru, police said.

Kunigal police in Tumakuru district has booked Ravi's driver Aakash. Ravi is a legislator from Chikkamagaluru.

The accident triggered a lightning protest by locals who blamed CT Ravi of not respecting sentiments of families of the deceased - Shashi Gowda (28) and Sunil Gowda (27).

"Our vehicle was thrown 20 feet away like a toy car. Two friends of mine died on the spot and when questioned, the MLA's friends shouted at me," Chetan Kumar, a friend of the deceased, said.

Kunigal police registered a case under IPC 304A (death due to rash and negligence drive) against Aakash.

The locals, however, blamed Ravi for the accident alleging that he was driving the car himself at a very high speed.

However, Karnataka BJP media convenor S Shantharam has denied the charges and stated that the MLA was not driving the car and he doesn't have any drinking habit as alleged.
