Mercury may fall to 10 degrees Celsius by Sunday in Delhi: Met

NEW DELHI: Delhi recorded light rain early on Wednesday, bringing down the mercury by several degrees. The sky remained overcast through the day, with India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting similar conditions and some rain on Thursday.
Against Tuesday’s 24.5 degrees Celsius, the maximum temperature fell to 21.2, four degrees below normal for the season. At 14.5 degrees Celsius, the minimum temperature, however, stayed three notches above normal. IMD’s forecast, however, predicted that the minimum temperature could drop to around 10 degrees Celsius by Sunday.

“There will be scattered rain on Thursday as well along with overcast skies. Strong surface winds may accompany the rain. There may also be some rain on Friday morning,” said a Met official.
Safdarjung, the base for Delhi’s weather, recorded 1.6mm of rainfall in a 24-hour duration till 8.30am. In the next nine hours, 0.8mm rain was recorded. The spell, however, led to a deterioration in air quality with the Air Quality Index (AQI) touching 271 (poor) compared to 221 (poor) on Tuesday. SAFAR predicted an improvement in the next 24 hours.
