TRICHY: Deputy inspector general of police, Trichy range, G Shanmugasundaram on Monday inaugurated a tailoring shop at the Prison Bazaar in the Trichy Central Prison. The shop will be run by two life convicts.
The tailoring shop promises affordable tailoring services. It is open to the public for stitching shirts, pants, blouse, school uniform.
“Most of the people don’t stitch their clothes. They rather go for readymade dress. This is mainly because of the skyrocketing stitching cost and time taken to get the dress stitched. We have decided to address both the issues,” said office superintendent of Trichy Central Prison A Thirumurugan.
“We will be trying to get the clothes stitched in the minimum time and the rates would be up to 25% less than what is charged outside. We have plans to increase the manpower and expand the space, based on demand,” he said.
Besides the tailor shop, the prison bazaar has a canteen and a vegetable shop run by prisoners.
