PATNA: Darbhanga MP Kirti Jha Azad joined the Congress on Monday in the presence of Rahul Gandhi and expressed his desire to contest the upcoming general election from the same seat against his former party BJP.
Talking to TOI over phone from Delhi, the three-time MP from Darbhanga said if given a chance, he would love to contest from Darbhanga in the upcoming Lok Sabha election. When asked the other grand alliance (GA) partners in Bihar had also shown interest in contesting from Darbhanga, Kirti said, “The decision will be taken by the top brass of the GA and I will welcome their decision. Everyone has the right to express desire for contesting from different seats and there is no harm in that. Such can be the case in the NDA, too.”
Kirti further said in case he is denied ticket, he will continue to play whatever role the party gives to him. Interestingly, Kirti had defeated four times RJD MP Mohammad Ali Ashraf Fatmi in 2014.
Kirti, who was on way to Patna from New Delhi, said he will be attending a motorcycle rally at Dharbhanga on Tuesday. He said 2,000 bikes will be there in the rally. Kirti denied that the motorcycle rally was being organized to show his strength in Dharbhanga. “I don’t need to show my strength there as I have been three times MP from that constituency. This motorcycle rally is being organized to celebrate my joining the Congress,” he said.
The son of former CM Bhagwat Jha Azad took on the present NDA government over terror attack at Pulwama. “Narendra Modi had promised to bring ten heads against the sacrifice of our soldiers. But his government has done nothing except for jumlebazi. This government has failed on its promises,” said Kirti, asked, “Where are two crore jobs, what happened to start-up India?”
He also raised the matter related to Delhi Cricket Association (DCA) and said in spite of having proof of Rs400 crore embezzlement there, BJP president Amit Shah paid no heed and PM Narendra Modi ignored his plea.
