BJP to put up party flags in 60L houses
TNN | Feb 18, 2019, 23:15 ISTBhubaneswar: The BJP targets to put up party flags in 60 lakh to 70 lakh houses in Odisha within the next fortnight under its nation-wide ‘My Family, BJP Family’ campaign in the run up to the simultaneous Lok Sabha and state assembly elections.
Launched by party president Amit Shah nationally on February 12, the saffron party began the drive in Odisha on Monday.
Starting the campaign by putting up the flag in his house here, Union petroleum minister and state BJP leader Dharmendra Pradhan said if various social welfare initiatives of the Narendra Modi-led NDA government are considered together, around 60 lakh to 70 lakh families have benefitted. “We will target to reach out to these families with the resolve of making Modi prime minister again,” he said. Dharmendra also requested all party leaders, cadres and workers to display BJP flags in their houses.
Dharmendra said 10 lakh people in Odisha have got houses under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana from among 1.5 crore in the country. Toilets have been constructed in 60 lakh houses in Odisha (10 crore in the country). Around 37 lakh families in Odisha (six crore in India) have got cooking gas connections under Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, he said while pointing out the potential families who would be interested to display BJP flags in their houses. According to Census 2011, there are total 96.53 lakh households in state.
After replacing the Congress as principal challenger to the Naveen Patnaik-led BJD in 2017 panchayat elections, the BJP eyes to improve its tally in LS and state assembly significantly this time compared to 2014 when the party had won only one LS seat (Sundargarh) out of 21 and 10 assembly seats (out of 147).
