Food manufacturer IBL S.r.l. Industrial Bakery Line (IBL) specializes in bakery machines. To implement a new cookie production line and mixing machine, IBL relies on a new solution which uses one engineering for the simple and comfortable integration of the programmable logic controller (PLC) and drives. The automation solution, CPU (Central Processing Unit) and servo drives all come from Siemens. The ability to implement the complete solution using just a single supplier and the additional provision of comprehensive application and pre-sales services by Siemens brought tangible benefits for IBL. With the new solution, the company has reduced its engineering time and simplified programming, maintenance and diagnostics across the whole system.

Industrial Bakery Line's catalog of specifications for the project was an extensive one. It stated easy integration of the programmable logic controller and drives into the automation system alongside an all-in-one solution encompassing Motion Control, and safety functions on one controller. The new technologies also had to enable rapid familiarization by the employees. Siemens met these considerable challenges using proven components from its drive and control portfolio.
Use of the TIA (Totally Integrated Automation) Portal simplifies programming of the entire system.
Optimum engineering and simple control
The TIA (Totally Integrated Automation) Portal provides IBL with an engineering framework which not only slashes the time spent on engineering, but also significantly simplifies programming of the whole system. The rapid, simple integration of the PLC and drives into the automation environment is enabled by software, and the use of Simatic S7-1500 T-CPUs (CPU 1517TF-3 PN/DP) makes for simpler architecture, system diagnostics and maintenance. In addition, integrated Profisafe functions help cut the former wiring space required for the system by around ten percent. Operation takes place using the HMI (Human Machine Interface) Comfort Panel Inox. By providing Industrial Bakery Line with a single controller capable of managing all the necessary automation, Motion Control and safety functions, this solution makes for substantially simplified realization of their machines. IBL also benefitted from extensive pre-sales and application support by the Siemens Application Team.

Integrated solution leverages potential
IBL was keen to implement a complete one-stop automation solution for its new line, and opted to rely on Siemens as overall supplier. This decision paves the way for the company to also leverage new potential when investing in any future assets.
