The Chinese travel market is accepting a golden age of ‘consumption upgrading’ and major growth of the “experience economy”, so that Thailand turns out to be one of the top destinations for Chinese travelers all through the year, and particularly during peak festive periods like the CNY.

China carries on growing its importance as a market in terms of Thailand tourism and the local host community. Key travel trends are as follows:

Growth & Diversity of Local Tourism: Compared to the last year, during CNY, the number of guest arrivals made by Airbnb guests from China increased 100%. Bangkok is one of the top cities in the world with an ever increasing popularity of extended trips to secondary destinations such as Chon Buri, Hua Hin, Rayong, Saraburi and Ayutthaya.

Added income for the locals: Welcoming more than 44,000 guests, local Airbnb hosts profited around THB 186 million in terms of extra income. During this peak CNY season, the Thailand Airbnb host earned over THB 43,000 in eight days.

Millennials remain constant while choosing Airbnb: Over 80% of bookings for 2019 made by independent Chinese travelers on Airbnb CNY holiday were made by users born in the 1980s and 1990s. In the travel industry, millennials are one of the strongest consumer demographics and there are more millenials in China than there are people in the United States.
