PATNA: The opposition members on Monday created din in both the Houses while demanding resignation of CM Nitish Kumar for controversy over Muzaffarpur shelter home rape cases.
Speaker Vijay Kumar Choudhary adjourned the assembly in the morning session within four minutes after it met for the day’s proceedings pertaining to the question hour, as the opposition members entered the well of the House. They carried posters and leaflets and also resorted to slogan shouting pursuing their demand.
Later, the RJD, Congress and CPI(ML) MLAs assembled in front of the statue of former CM Karpoori Thakur and sat on a dharna there in support of their demand.
The RJD and CPI(ML) members created an unprecedented noisy scene in the post-lunch session in the presence of CM Nitish Kumar in the House. He was scheduled to move the bill regarding 10% quota for the economically weaker sections among the unreserved category.
During the post-lunch session, the Speaker conducted the proceedings to pass the seven bills and two resolutions. Even as the Speaker asked the opposition members to return to their seats and also asked senior RJD member Abdul Bari Siddiqui, who was at his seat, to ask them to return to their seats, his advisory was not attended to. While the motions regarding the passage of the bills went through amid din, the opposition members also tried to disrupt the proceedings by upturning the table of the official reporters, which invited censor from both the Speaker and Siddiqui.
Once the government’s business of getting the bills passed and the two resolutions was completed, the Speaker adjourned the House to meet again on Wednesday.
RJD MLCs also trooped into the well and shouted anti-government slogans demanding resignation of CM Nitish Kumar over Muzaffarpur shelter home rape cases. However, JD(U) MLCs said the opposition was raising the issue to malign the government’s image as the matter was in the Supreme Court. “Nitish always talks of moral values. So, he should resign now,” former CM Rabri Devi said outside the House. Congress MLC Prem Chandra Mishra also supported Rabri saying those in power may create hindrance in the probe and should resign.
