A day after a major fire broke out at a warehouse at Digodhi in Uran, fire officials were yet to douse the blaze completely by Sunday evening.
After the blaze was reported around 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, 10 fire tenders from ONGC, Dronagir, Ulwe, Kalamboli, New Panvel, JNPT and from Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation were called in.
“The warehouse owner has not been cooperating with us, so we are facing major problems. There is no water facility and we have to refill water in each tender by going to a fire station. We have not even been told anything about goods stored inside,” CIDCO fire officer Vijay Rane said. The officers have till now found air conditioner compressors, tyres, and drums of chemicals, which exploded in the hour after the fire broke out.
“The roof has caved in, causing debris to accumulate inside. The fire is under control, but is still burning. We hope to start the cooling process by Sunday night,” Mr. Rane said. The warehouse is spread over approximately 4,000 sq.m.
