Duminy in doubt for Sri Lanka ODI series

2019-02-18 13:05

Cape Town - Proteas all-rounder JP Duminy remains a doubt for the one-day international (ODI) series against Sri Lanka next month.

Duminy, who is currently recovering from a shoulder injury, has not played any competitive cricket since Zimbabwe's tour to South Africa in October 2018.

The 34-year-old is still expected to play for the Cape Cobras in the ongoing One Day Cup, however a recent update from the Cobras camp revealed that Duminy is still not match-ready.

The Cobras are in Bloemfontein as they face the Knights at Mangaung Oval in their second One Day Cup match on Tuesday.

"Duminy's throwing is not strong enough as a result of his shoulder injury and he won't be considered for selection for the match against the Knights," Shane Jabaar, physiotherapist of the Cape Cobras, said as quoted by their official website.

The Proteas take on Sri Lanka in the first of five ODIs, which gets underway on March 3.

This will be the Proteas' final preparations to solidify their squad for this year's Cricket World Cup in England.

Duminy still has an opportunity to get back in the green and gold but is in desperate need for some game time.

"Duminy's batting is looking as strong as ever but he feels uncertain about his bowling and his fielding. He prides himself in his throwing arm and his ability to throw himself around in the field," said coach Ashwell Prince.

"He wants to make sure he can field as good as ever, and bowl," he added.

Play in Bloemfontein starts at 13:30 on Tuesday.
