Burglars strike at police quarters
TNN | Feb 18, 2019, 22:52 ISTHubballi: It seems that even the houses of policemen aren’t safe from thieves. Miscreants broke into the residence of two policemen in the new police quarters on Karwar Road during the early hours of Monday and made away with golden ornaments and silver articles worth Rs 5.14 lakh.
The thieves gained entry into the police quarters and broke into the residence of Mahantesh Hosamani, a sub-inspector in armed reserve police in block number 7 and stole 113 grams of gold ornaments worth Rs 2.77 lakh and 540 grams of silver articles worth Rs 13,700.
They later broke into the house of Mallikarjun Kudawakkal, a civil police constable in block number 6, and stole 42 grams of gold jewels worth Rs 1.26 lakh and 360 grams of silver articles worth Rs 14,400.
Suburban police inspected the crime scene and registered a case. Police said the burglary took place when the residents of the houses were out to attend some private functions.
Citizens have expressed concern over the double burglary in police quarters which is in the heart of the city. It is surprising as the place has police presence at any given time, they said.
