VARANASI: At least one person was killed while three others suffered bullet injuries when two motorcycle-borne miscreants opened indiscriminate fire at them in the crowded Dhanapur market area of Chandauli district on Monday evening.
On Monday afternoon, Vishal Singh Yadav and Munna Yadav of Raipur village reached Dhanpur market along with other family members. While the others were busy, Vishal and Munna went to a barber's shop where they entered into an altercation with shop owner Gopal Singh over their turn.
As the situation escalated, Gopal was joined by his associates Raja Singh and Ishwar Singh, all three residents of nearby Budheypur village.
Outnumbered, Vishal and Munna left the scene and returned home along with other members of the family. In the evening, the duo reached the barber's shop again and one of them opened fire at Gopal. Raja and Ishwar also suffered gunshot wounds along with a passerby who was hit by a stray bullet.
The firing led to chaos in the market and Vishal and Munna fled. Senior police officials rushed to the site and the injured were taken to the hospital where doctors declared Raja dead. Gopal and Ishwar are being shifted to Varanasi as their condition is serious.
SP Chandauli Santosh Kumar Singh said police were yet to receive any written complaint from the victims but have initiated action against the accused on the basis of CCTV footage.
