XLRI to confer peace medal on billionaire businesswoman Anu Aga
B Sridhar | TNN | Feb 19, 2019, 03:14 ISTJamshedpur: The Xavier-XLRI School of Management will confer the prestigious ‘Sir Jehangir Ghandy Medal for Industrial and Social Peace’ on billionaire businesswoman and social worker Anu Aga, at its 63rd annual convocation scheduled on March 23. Confirming about the visit of Aga, the former head of Thermax Ltd, to receive the honour, XLRI spokesperson Sunil Vergese said she would be the chief speaker at the upcoming convocation of XLRI.
Vergese said, “Anu Aga will also deliver the convocation address to our graduating students.” She will be one of the few distinguished personalities with a business background to be conferred the peace medal, he added.
Aga, the ex-chairperson of Thermax Ltd, an engineering and environment enterprise, figured in the Forbes magazine as one of the richest women of India in 2007. She was conferred with the Padma Shri award for social work in 2010. A noted business leader, Aga was also nominated to the Rajya Sabha in 2012 and she was member of the National Advisory Council from 2010 to 2014 during UPA II regime.
Currently, Aga is associated with Teach for India, an NGO that works with graduates and young professionals in low income schools across different parts of the country.
Previous winners of the peace award included Sunil Munjal of Hero group, Narayana Murty of Infosys, Adi Godrej of Godrej group, Shiv Nadar of HCL and T V Mohandas Pai of Manipal Global Education.
