KOLKATA: Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha MP Shantanu Sen has alleged that he has been receiving threat calls over the past one and a half months. He lodged a police complaint on Saturday.
Sen said the number of calls has gone up over the last two weeks, forcing him to go to the cops. He alleged that the callers have been threatening to shoot him and blow up his house. A police officer said he could be provided security.
"I have been receiving these calls since December but chose to ignore them. That was till the calls got very frequent two weeks ago and the callers started threatening to harm my family members. They have threatened to shoot me on the road and kidnap my daughter. I have informed the Sinthee police station," Sen told TOI on Sunday.
The MP said the calls could be politically motivated. "I am still not scared. But some of my family members and friends suggested that since the calls are getting frequent, I should inform the police," he said. The police have already started an investigation. It has been found that the numbers from where the calls were made are registered under fake names.
"I have got several numbers stored in my phone. Whenever I received a call, I would call back. But the phone would be immediately disconnected," said Sen.
