RAJKOT: An altercation over overtaking of vehicle turned gory when a 30-year-old man was shot dead in Khitala village of Sayla taluka in Surendranagar district on Sunday night.
The deceased was identified as Dhiru Khawad and the accused as Harshad Bawaji, both residents of Khitala village.
According to police, Dhiru and his friend Ajay Khawad were going in their car, when Bawaji overtook the car on his bike. As it was a single-lane road, Dhiru scolded Bawaji for overtaking, leading to an altercation.
“After this, Bawaji left the spot and went to his home in Khitala. However, Dhiru and Ajay went after him to argue with him. This made Bawaji angry. He came out of his home, brandishing a country-made pistol and fired one round at Dhiru. The bullet hit his chest. Dhiru was rushed to Sayla Civil Hospital, where he succumbed to injuries,” said J S Dela, sub-inspector with Sayla police station.
Meanwhile, police have launched a manhunt for Bawaji, who went absconding after the crime.
