Zoya Akhtar directorial Gully boy has impressed the audience with its easy-to-connect storyline, performances and impactful rap numbers.
Gully Boy earned Rs 21.30 crore on the fourth day (Sunday) of its release, taking the total collection to Rs 72.45 crore.
Sharing the latest box office figures, film trade analyst Taran Adarsh wrote on Twitter, “#GullyBoy has excellent *extended* weekend… Will cross ₹ 75 cr today [Mon]… Metros exceptional… Mumbai circuit terrific… Tier-2 cities pick up… Metros to trend strongly on weekdays… Thu 19.40 cr, Fri 13.10 cr, Sat 18.65 cr, Sun 21.30 cr. Total: ₹ 72.45 cr. India biz”
He also added, “#GullyBoy benchmarks…Crossed ₹ 50 cr: Day 3 ₹ 75 cr: Will cross on Day 5 [Mon] Will cross *lifetime biz* of Zoya Akhtar’s #DilDhadakneDo [₹ 76.88 cr] on Day 5 and #ZindagiNaMilegiDobara [₹ 90.27 cr; Zoya’s highest grossing film] in Week 1 itself. India biz.”
The Indian Express’ film critic Shubhra Gupta gave the film three-and-a-half stars. A section of her review read, “(Ranveer) Singh brings a restrained swagger to the part: there is a gentleness to his anger. His Murad shows that Singh can tamp down on his characteristic boisterousness to create something of value, even though sometimes you can see the effort show.”
She added, “But, ultimately, this is a film to enjoy. In today’s India, to bring a Murad and Safeena, their Muslim-ness a matter-of-fact statement, into centre-stage, to give traction to those who live on the wrong side of the tracks, is an act of bravery. ‘Inka time aa gaya’. Rap along.”
Besides Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt, the film also features Kalki Koechlin, Siddhant Chaturvedi and Vijay Raaz among others in significant roles.
