Mudgal town observes bandh

The Maski police have on Sunday, arrested five persons, out of six, for allegedly celebrating the brutal terror attack at Pulwama in Jammu and Kashmir.

While three of them were arrested on Saturday, two were arrested on Sunday. The arrested are Khajasab, Bhashasab, Hussainsab, Rahemansab, Budnesab. Kari Hussainsab, the sixth accused, is yet to be arrested.

A complaint was registered soon after they had celebrated the martyrdom of soldiers by bursting crackers and shouting pro-Pakistan slogans in Talaikhan village in Maski taluk on Saturday, police said. After the incident, hundreds of people from neighbouring villages rushed to the village and demanded that immediate action be taken against culprits booking them with sedition charges.

On Sunday, people from all walks of life gathered in Mudgal town in Lingsugur taluk, Raichur district, and observed volunteer bandh against the terror attack. According to police, shops, business establishments were shut in support of the bandh.

A procession was taken out in the town and slogans against terrorism were shouted. “We want action against terrorism and those who support the terrorists,” they said adding that culprits who celebrated soldiers’ martyrdom be punished with iron hands.

D. Kishor Babu, Superintendent of Police, told The Hindu that the bandh was peaceful. However, additional police forces were put in place to ensure peace.

To a question, he said that situation in Talaikhan village was under control. The police are searching for the last accused, he added.
