Nagpur: After clinching backto-back Irani Cups on Saturday, the Vidarbha team announced that the players will be donating the winner’s prize money of Rs 25 lakh to CRPF soldiers who lost their lives in Pulwama on Thursday. “We as a team decided to donate the prize money to the family of the martyrs who lost their lives in Pulwama. This is a small gesture from our team,” Vidarbha captain Faiz Fazal said during the presentation ceremony after the match on Saturday.

Later, in the evening, during a felicitation function, coach Chandrakant Pandit said that Fazal came up with the idea during the last day of the match. “At tea break, we needed 51 runs to win the Irani Cup. Fazal came to me and said ‘We need to do something for martyrs of the Pulwama attack. With your permission we want to donate the award money'. I am very proud that the team is making a contribution of Rs 25 lakh for the families of the brave-hearts,” said Pandit.
