CHANDIGARH: The residents will face acute water shortage for two days beginning Monday due to ongoing works in Kajauli site to bring 29 MGD water to the city. The snag is due to the non-lifting of raw water from Bhakra Main Line (BML). The civic body authorities have hired private water tankers to supply water in parts of the city. The city has been distributed in seven zones from where tankers will fill the water and supply it in the areas facing shortage. The seven zones are sector 15,31,32,39,51, Mauli Jagran and Manimajra.

A team of officers have been deputed from the rank of junior engineer to executive engineer who will monitor the supply of water (zone-wise) through tankers to residents. As per the civic body, due to the ongoing works of intake sump at take off point at Kajauli for connection of Phase V and VI, there will be no pumping of raw water from Kajauli to Chandigarh on February 18 and 19, (Monday and Tuesday). The MC stated that currently, Chandigarh is getting 58 MGD of raw water from Phase I to Phase IV from Kajauli. The work of Phase V and Phase VI for bringing 29 MGD additional raw water from Kajauli before summer season is nearly completed.

In case of shortage of water, residents can approach the MC and contact the concerned officers of the MC’s engineering department to get the water tanker supply. The water through tankers will be supplied in the different parts of the city, free of cost and residents will not have to pay anything to get the water supply.
