This Man Bought A Rolls-Royce Phantom For $80K, So How Did It Turn Out?

Crossovers and SUVs have become so popular that they have almost killed not only the usual family cars, but the land yachts, too.

With a few exceptions, such as the Rolls-Royce Phantom, Bentley Mulsanne, or the Maybach S-Class, automakers have said ‘no’ to such extravagant saloons. And that’s quite sad, as HooviesGarage put it while driving a previous-gen Phantom, stating that it’s pretty much the perfect family car. Which, admittedly, is a strange thing to state about any Rolls – but let’s see what he has to say.

His Phantom was made in 2005 and cost $80,000 to purchase six months ago. Serious cash, yes, but boy do these things depreciate! For the same money he could have gotten a sparkling new 2019 Lincoln Navigator, with a few optional extras and a warranty – but you can’t say no to a Rolls now, can you?

Whether the average car buyer needs the extra ground clearance and four-wheel drive in that one inch of snow is a controversial topic these days, when vehicles are focused on pretty much everything except offering a truly comfortable ride. And that’s sad, because America used to be all about land yachts for a long time before the 2008 recession and the subsequent barrage of SUVs.

Anyhow, automakers are out there to make a buck, and if that’s what the customers want, then that’s what they’ll offer. For now, though, let’s see what life looks like as a family man who owns a Rolls-Royce Phantom. Is it as great (and scary, if you think about the costs) as it sounds?
