All roads are leading to South India’s Kumbh Mela, which started on February 17 and will continue till 19 at Thiramakudalu Narasipura. The mela is taking place at the Triveni Sangama, confluence of rivers Cauvery, Kapila and Spatika Sarovar. The Kumbh Mela, held once every three years since 1989, is expected to attract more than three lakh devotees.
Devotees can take a dip on all the days of the mela, during which time, various religious activities like homa, havana and abhishekhas will take place that will be attended by more than 60 religious leaders. On Monday evening, Ganga puja on the lines of the one held at Varanasi, will be one of highlights of the mela.
Temples like Biksheshwara, Mulastheneshwara and Agastheswara Gunjanarasimhaswamy have been given a new look on the occasion of Kumbh Mela. Several makeshift hospitals have been opened by authorities to attend to medical emergencies. Temporary toilets and bathing ghats are ready to ensure devotees don’t face hardships. Security arrangements are in place to prevent any untoward incidents.
