2 ask woman to roll down car window, shoot at her

GREATER NOIDA: A woman was shot at twice outside her home in Sector 23 by bike-borne assailants who apparently tried to snatch her car and other valuables. The bullets missed the woman. Police are examining CCTV footage to track the assailants.

The incident occurred around 10.30am when Mary (45), a private firm employee, was driving towards a church. The two assailants stopped her and asked her to roll down the window. When she didn’t, they shot at the windshield twice. The bullets damaged the vehicle but the woman remained unhurt.

Thomas K Pathrose, Mary’s brother, said local residents came out of their house after hearing the gunshots and prompted the attackers to flee. “She had just got into the car to reach the church when the two bikers wearing helmets asked her to roll down the glass. Instead, she locked the vehicle. This made them angry and they shot twice at the window,” he said.

Mary works at a private firm in Noida. She lodged a complaint with police.

“We got a call around 10.45pm. Based on her complaint, we have booked unknown persons under Section 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code,” said Mithilesh Upadhyay, the SHO of Sector 24.

Upadhyay added that CCTV footage from nearby areas was being looked into. “The woman could not provide the number of the bike. However, they can be seen on CCTV, it was a black bike. A probe is on, arrests will be made soon,” he added.
