Minister for Information Technology M. Manikandan flagged off nine new Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) buses allotted to the district after Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami had flagged off 275 new buses in Chennai on February 14.

Of the 275 new buses, Karaikudi zone was allotted 11 buses, of which, nine were allotted to the district, Mr Manikandan said flagging off the new buses in the presence of Collector K Veera Raghava Rao at a brief function held at the new bus stand here on Sunday. He said the district would get 50 more new buses in the coming months.

The new buses would be operated – one each in Ramanathapuram – Madurai, Erwadi Dargah – Kumili, Sayalkudi – Chidambaram, Ramanathapuram – Tiruchi, Rameswaram – Madurai, Rameswaram – Karur, Rameswaram – Madurai, Mudukulathur – Chidambaram and Kamuthi – Salem, officials said. The new buses would be operated by Ramanathapuram mofusil, Ramanathapuram town, Rameswaram, Paramakudi, Mudukulathur and Kamuthi branches.

TNSTC General Manager Gomathi Srinivsan, Deputy Manager R. Sivalingam, Zonal Manager (Ramanathapuram) V. Saravanan and Branch Managers Padmakumar and P. Tamizhmaran and TNSTC employees and were among others present at the function.
