  • The ride operator said the incident was the result of a faulty generator

The terrifying moment four people were trapped and left dangling in mid-air on a fair ride has been caught on camera.

The four show patrons had climbed onto the ride at the Adelaide Fringe Festival on the weekend but after just a couple of rotations they were left dangling in mid-air after the ride lost all power.

Michael Lewis was one of four people on the ride at the time along with his girlfriend Shannon Ross.

Mr Lewis told 7 News the ride had only just started when the ride stopped.

'It went around two rotations, on the third rotation there was two big clunks and the ride came to a halt,' he said.

'Completely blacked out (the ride) and just sort of left us hanging there.'

Miss Ross said the incident was scary as she knew if the ride fell they would not survive.

'I was pretty scared actually, I grabbed hold of my seat and was like "this thing better not come undone because it's a long fall",' she said.

The ride regained power after some time and all four patrons were brought down safely.

The operator of the ride told 7 News it wasn't a ride malfunction but instead it was a faulty generator that tripped and cut the power.

Work Safe South Australia will not be investigating the incident because no one was injured.
