GHAZIABAD: Two youths have been booked for allegedly damaging the ATM of a public sector bank and fraudulently withdrawing around Rs 10,000 from it in Raj Nagar.
In a unique modus operandi, the accused, who are yet to be identified, used an Axis Bank debit card at Dena Bank’s Raj Nagar branch around 2pm on Saturday to withdraw Rs 10,000, the maximum amount permitted. Instead of taking all the money, they left a few currency notes in the cash dispenser. Then, they cut off the power supply to the ATM and switched it on.
Dena Bank’s Kavi Nagar branch manager Shagun Sharma, who also heads the Raj Nagar branch, said this caused some technical glitches in the ATM. As a result, despite the withdrawal of the money, the amount was not deducted from that particular account. The accused then left with the cash.
The accused won’t be able to evade police for a long time as we have the account details too,” said Baljeet Singh, in-charge of Ghaziabad cyber cell.
