Deepika Padukone’s messy hairstyle is perfect for your brunch plan today

Had a late night partying and not sure what your beauty look is for brunch? Deepika Padukone offers the perfect option—and you don't even need to shampoo

Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh spent their first Valentine’s Day as a married couple celebrating Padukone’s father. The couple joined Prakash and Ujjala Padukone at the Sportstar Aces Awards earlier this week, where he was bestowed with the Lifetime Achievement Award. The two have a lot to celebrate, as Singh’s latest film Gully Boy released the same day to be met with positive reviews. Padukone was styled in a floral Gauri and Nainika gown by her long-time stylist Shaleena Nathani, and Singh wore a pinstriped suit to support his father-in-law. Padukone highlighted her backless gown with a messy bun and loose tendrils à la Meghan Markle, and opted for her signature matte makeup to complete the look.
As is usual for Singh, he commented on his wife’s photos on Instagram from the event as he said, “Maar hi dogi tum…” But we’re crushing on the look for another reason—the messy bun and matte makeup is the perfect, easy-to-pull-together look on hungover Sunday mornings. Thankfully, Padukone’s beauty look is easy enough to recreate at home even when you don’t have her glam squad on call.
Get the look: Deepika Padukone’s messy bun hairstyle and simple matte makeup
- This hairstyle works best on day-two hair, so you don’t even have to schedule a shampoo. Start by spritzing a texturising spray on the roots and brushing it outwards with a comb. The Toni and Guy Sea Salt Texturising Spray will create body and tease the roots, if you’re unsure about what to use. Collect all the hair at the back of the head and pull it up into a ponytail. Twist it around to create a bun, and use an elastic to secure it in place. If you need more volume, try mussing the roots with a teasing comb to get a piece-y texture.
- Take out some tendrils from the front, and wrap them around a small barrel curling iron to create relaxed waves. This will add a layer of polish to the messy bun. Follow with a shine spray like the Drybar Sparkling Soda Shine Mist to set the hairstyle.
- To get Padukone’s matte base, use a mattifying primer like Huda Beauty Matte Perfection Pre-Makeup Base Primer while focusing on the T-zone, where the face gets greasiest. Then, with a foundation brush, apply a matte foundation all over. Conceal imperfections and dark circles under the eyes, and set everything with a translucent powder like Givenchy Poudre Première Mat & Translucent-Finish Loose Powder. Pick up enough product with a large fluffy brush, and buff into the skin.
- For a subtle contour, use a matte bronzing powder that does not have any shimmer. Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Matte Bronzer blends in easily without causing any creases or flaking. Brush this on under your cheekbones, jawline and at sides of your nose. Choose a powder blush that flatters your skin tone and apply it to the apples of the cheeks, blending upwards towards the temples.
- For the eyes, choose a brown eyeliner instead of black for a subtler effect. Apply a taupe eyeshadow on the entire eyelid, and then apply it with a damp brush to the lower lash line. Then, use a brown gel eyeliner to line the top and bottom, focusing on the outer corners of the eye.
- Line lips with a nude lip liner to create the silhouette with a peaked Cupid’s bow. Fill in with a matte lipstick like the Anastasia Beverly Hills Matte Lipstick in Staunch. The velvety lipstick dries matte and won’t budge through the day.
